Import Duties for the United States
Notice for customers in the United States
U.S. import rules have changed several times since 2025. Since August 29, 2025, there is no duty-free allowance for small packages, so every package from Japan may be charged duty. Duty rates on goods from Japan changed again on July 24, 2026, and may change again.
Our items and their customs codes
| Item | HTS code we use |
|---|---|
| Kishu Binchotan charcoal (grilling) | 4402.90 |
| Diatomite konro grills | 6901.00 |
| Decorative charcoal | 3802.10 |
For other items, please contact us before ordering and we will tell you the code we use.
Important
The amount of duty depends on the item and its declared value, and is decided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). We cannot tell you the exact amount before your package arrives.
Import duties and other fees
Your order ships DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). Duties are not included in the item price or shipping charge. The carrier collects them before or at delivery, and may also charge a customs processing (brokerage) fee. These are not additional shipping charges from us.
What to expect
1. You place your order.
2. We prepare and ship it (most orders within 4–7 business days; konro grills 7–14 business days) and email you the tracking number.
3. Your package arrives at U.S. customs.
4. If duty applies, the carrier contacts you to pay it.
5. Your package is delivered.
Customs assessment
CBP makes the final decision on duties. If you think the amount is wrong, please contact the carrier or CBP. We are happy to send you the invoice and the codes we used.
Payment responsibility
The recipient is responsible for paying duties and fees. Duties and fees paid to the carrier or customs are not refunded by us.
Refused deliveries and cancellations after shipping
If a shipment is refused or returned, the round-trip shipping cost, applicable cancellation/restocking fees, and any duties or taxes billed to us by the carrier will be deducted from your refund. If these exceed the refund amount, we will invoice you for the balance.
By placing an order, you acknowledge and agree that:
• Import duties, taxes and customs fees are not included in the item price or shipping charge.
• You, as the recipient, are responsible for paying them.
• This responsibility remains even if you refuse or do not collect the package.
• The final amount is decided by customs in your country, at the rates in effect when your package arrives.
• Cancellations, refused deliveries and returns follow our Cancellations and Returns policy and this page.
Current U.S. trade policy
U.S. tariff policy has changed often since 2025 and may change again. The rates in effect when your package enters the U.S. apply. For official information, see U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
