Choosing a Japanese diatomite konro, or looking for a replacement mesh for the one you already own? This chart puts the sizes for each BQ series grill on one page: the outer size of the grill, its grilling area, and the size of the replacement meshes (grates) we offer for it.

|---|---|---|
| BQ-8F | 310 × 230 × 200 mm (12.2 × 9.1 × 7.9 in) | 230 × 150 mm (9.1 × 5.9 in) |
| BQ8WF | 540 × 230 × 200 mm (21.3 × 9.1 × 7.9 in) | 460 × 150 mm (18.1 × 5.9 in) |
| BQ12 | 460 × 350 × 200 mm (18.1 × 13.8 × 7.9 in) | — |

- Sizes can vary by about ±10 mm (maker's tolerance).
- The firebox is approx. 114 mm deep on every model.
- Inches are rounded to one decimal place. “—” means we do not list that size.
Replacement mesh sizes
| Model | Stainless steel mesh (reusable) | Steel mesh (disposable) |
|---|---|---|
| BQ-8F | 270 × 210 mm (10.6 × 8.3 in) × 1 | 270 × 210 mm (10.6 × 8.3 in) × 1 |
| BQ8WF | 270 × 210 mm (10.6 × 8.3 in) × 2 | 270 × 210 mm (10.6 × 8.3 in) × 2 |
| BQ12 | 300 × 450 mm (11.8 × 17.7 in) × 1 | 450 × 300 mm (17.7 × 11.8 in) × 1 |
| BQ8T | 380 × 230 mm (15.0 × 9.1 in) × 2 | — |

- “× 2” means two meshes laid side by side cover one grill. A stainless set for those grills contains two meshes.
- “—” means we do not offer that mesh.
- We also offer meshes for the BQ55 (stainless 260 × 160 mm / 10.2 × 6.3 in; steel 270 × 170 mm / 10.6 × 6.7 in; 1 per grill). We do not sell that grill.
Narrow or wide?
- Narrow models (230 mm / 9.1 in front to back): BQ-8F, BQ8WF, BQ8T. The long, narrow shape is the classic yakitori layout: skewers rest across the grill and the handles stay away from the heat. Pick the length that suits how many skewers you want in one row.
- Wide models (350 mm / 13.8 in front to back): BQ12, BQ17, BQ22. More room front to back for larger pieces such as fish, steaks and vegetables.
Which mesh fits my konro?
- Find your model in the charts. On our grills the model name is in the product name (for example “BQ17”).
- If you do not know the model, measure the outer length and width of your konro and send us the size. We will tell you which mesh fits.
- Choose stainless (reusable) or steel (disposable), then check whether your grill takes one mesh or two.
Every grill comes with one set of grill net fitted to its size. Our replacement meshes, stainless and steel, are compatible replacements, not the original meshes supplied with the grill; their sizes are very close to the originals.
Mesh options
- Stainless steel, reusable, made in Japan: wash and reuse cook after cook. Stainless steel throughout, with no zinc (galvanized) coating. → Stainless steel konro grill mesh
- Steel, disposable value packs: a low-cost option to replace after each use. → Disposable steel konro grill mesh
Ordering a grill too? Add the meshes to the same order: shipping is calculated once on the total weight.

Safety
Burning charcoal produces carbon monoxide, which you cannot see or smell.
- At home: use outdoors only. Never use the grill indoors, in a garage, tent or vehicle, even with windows open. Do not bring the grill inside until the coals are completely out.
- Restaurants: indoor use requires a commercial exhaust system for solid-fuel cooking (NFPA 96) approved by your local fire authority. We sell this grill without NSF or UL certification; check with your local fire and health departments before use.
- Use on a heat-resistant base, away from anything that can burn, and never leave it unattended.
- To put the fire out, move the coals with tongs into a charcoal extinguisher pot. Closing the vents alone does not put the fire out. Do not pour water on the grill (diatomite absorbs water and becomes brittle).
